JOIN OUR AUXILIARY

Bellville General Hospital is blessed with an Auxiliary that numbers in excess of 100 members, both men and women, who are dedicated to improving the quality of patient care at BGH.

The Auxiliary has been an active part of the hospital since 1977. Several charter members of the Auxiliary are still actively volunteering their time and talents to the hospital on a regular basis. New members are joining every month and becoming familiar faces and welcome additions to the hospital family.

Over the years, the Auxiliary has been instrumental in assisting the hospital to  obtain patient equipment and other items that have helped enhance patient care at BGH. Since its inception, the Auxiliary has gifted the hospital in excess of $450,000 designated for patient services that included dietary equipment, hospital furniture, ER and MCU monitoring equipment, wheel chairs, defibrillators and laboratory equipment. Over 50,000 hours of volunteer time have been clocked in the past 10 years!!

The Auxiliary, "famous" for its annual Rummage Sale, ventured into  new waters in 2004,when it  started a new fundraising venue....a resale shop.    With their motto "think resale, not rummage", the Auxiliary volunteers launched a  project that was an immediate "hit" with savvy shoppers in the area!  Everything from antiques to name-brand clothing are offered for sale in a unique boutique-style environment!

Utilizing a property owned by the Hospital District that fronts West Main (Highway 36 N), the shop is located at 238 West Main.  "New 2 U", offers a variety of donated items that have been slightly used, yet ready to wear or take home and use!  Donations are accepted at the site.  Hours are  Wed., Thurs., and Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.   Opened on April 1st (No Fooling!), the shop raised in excess of $32,000 during its first 9 months of operation, ended 12-31-04. 2005 net sales exceeded $43,000!  2006 net sales surpassed $52,000, with the shop only open 146 days! Funds are generally ear-marked for equipment or furnishings within  the hospital, so every time the cash register rings, it means financial support for BGH. No wonder the BHA won the coveted Past Presidents Award for Fund Raising at the state TAVA convention in 2006.

In addition to  the  resale shop, volunteers assist with floor duties at BGH as well as manning the information desk in the hospital's main lobby. The hospital gift shop is also a project of the Auxiliary.  The Auxiliary also accepts memorial gift contributions.  Envelopes are available in the hospital lobby.

2008 president of the Auxiliary is Freddie Ann Marcussen. Other officers include Billie Acock, 1st VP; Karin Thompson, 2nd VP; Liz Abbott, Secretary; and Elizabeth Eder, Treasurer.

The Auxiliary meets the 3rd Monday of every month at 1 p.m.  Visitors and guests are always welcome. Annual dues are $10; Lifetime Memberships are available for a one-time $100.

Thank you for the great scores!

Since May, 2006, the federal government has looked at healthcare with the same eye towards customer service as the mom and pop grocery store down the street.  Only in the case of the federal government, they tied reimbursement compensation for Medicare payments to the 'voluntary' solicitation of customer feedback from hospitals nationwide.  The process has been tweaked and refined and the first year of results are finally available on-line.  Needless to say, many a hospital administrator has been sweating this first release of results.  Across the board, BGH rated high scores from those patients that returned the questionnaire/survey.  We're proud to say that 90% of patients that used BGH from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007 rated us either a  9 or a 10, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the BEST!   AND, 93% of those replying to the questionnaire said our Doctors "always" communicated well. 84% of our patients surveyed said that their pain was 'always' well controlled; 85% said they 'always' received help as soon as they wanted. 90% of the patients said our nurses 'always' communicated well.

That word "ALWAYS" is key to the results.  Check your dictionary as "always" means just that...at all times; on all occasions; continuously; forever.

Just like our slogan says..."We'll Take Good Care of You."  Maybe we ought to add another word....Always.

BGH recertified Basic Level IV Trauma Center

It's official, the certificate has arrived from the Texas Department of State Health Services.  "We knew we had a good survey, " Morris said, "We were just waiting for the official certification to arrive before announcing it."  This means BGH has met all standards of care relating to the treatment of trauma in Texas, actively advocates for trauma system development and works to improve the availability and quality of trauma care in Texas. Recertification is for a period of 4 year.

"Best Ever" Golf Classic

At least that's what everyone is saying who participated in the recent C. Gaylen Ackley Memorial Golf Classic benefitting Bellville Hospital Foundation!  Mother Nature must be a golfer because we had the perfect weather. No humidity, temperatures in the mid 70s and slight breezes.  Golfers enjoyed the beautiful Stephen F. Austin Golf Course, followed by a great Mexican food buffet feast and toe-tapping Texas swing favorites provided by "The Usual Suspects" performing outside under a canopy of live oak trees and twinkling stars.  Grossing just shy of $85,000, this year's event was a huge success, thanks to so many sponsors, underwriters and participants.  SOOO, circle the 3rd Friday in your 2009 calendar and plan to join us.  Golfers came from as far away as San Antonio, New Braunfels, Austin and Houston.
